OMDS launched a new macro lens OM SYSTEM 90mm F3.5 Macro IS Pro, on Wednesday.

I had a chance to test for a week at the end of January. I shared my thoughts in this video.
The best things about the 90mm F3.5 Macro
The best things are the focal length, the IP53 weather sealing, IS in the lens with SyncIS, and the compatibility with extenders MC-14 and MC-20.
It is the only 4X macro lens with a working AF across all focusing distances. That alone is remarkable.

The only downside is the fastest aperture, but on the other hand, we stop down anyways since the depth of field is very narrow.
OMDS has (again) gone in the right direction. A short telephoto macro fits OMDS’s strategy to make gear for outdoor, wildlife, and bird photographers. Macro is something that in that genre is photographed a lot.
See the unseen
OMDS used the slogan “See the unseen” when marketing this new lens. Those who have photographed true macro know there is a whole new world when looking at the world in 4X magnification. It is a good slogan.

The lens got a pretty good reception. There was an article/blog post in Petapixel about the abilities of macro photography with MFT. It had a lot of good points about MFT and why it is better than its reputation. The article is worth reading.
Even though I said I would not buy the lens, I am considering it anyways. I have some product photography gigs, and it is a good lens for that too. It would also be a good lens for gaming up the b-roll regarding gear videos. Until now, I have used the 60mm F2.8 for that, but we will see.

I am still deciding if I am buying it.
