  • Abstract Minimalism in Photography: A Simple Guide

    Abstract minimalism

Abstract minimalism combines two styles: minimalism, which is about keeping things simple, and abstract, which is about using shapes and colors to create a feeling or idea. This blog post discusses abstract minimalism, why people like it, and tips for taking these photos.

    What is Abstract Minimalism?

Abstract minimalism in photos is about showing less, to say more. It’s about using simple shapes, lots of space, and not showing things exactly as they are. This kind of photography uses:

    1. Simplicity: Using simple shapes and a few things in the picture.

    2. Empty Space: Using much space to make the main subject stand out.

    3. Abstract: It does not show things clearly, but it uses colors and shapes to give a feeling.

    4. Colors and Contrast: Using strong colors and differences between light and dark to make the picture interesting.

    5. Feeling: These photos make people feel something or think, but everyone might feel or think differently.

Why Do People Like Abstract Minimalism?

    It Looks Nice

These photos are nice to look at because they are simple and clean.

    Feelings

They can make people feel something special or think about the photo’s meaning.

    Creativity

For photographers, this style is a fun challenge. It makes them think of new ways to show things.

How to Take Abstract Minimalist Photos

    1. Look Carefully: Find interesting shapes, textures, and patterns in everyday things.

    2. Think About Arrangement: Decide how to place things in your photo. Use a lot of space.

    3. Play with Colors and Light: Experiment with shadows and bright colors.

    4. Be Abstract: Let your photos be open to different ideas and feelings.

    5. Edit: When you edit your photos, keep them simple and focus on the main ideas.

    Conclusion

Abstract minimalism in photography is about showing simple yet powerful images. It asks the photographer and the viewer to find beauty and meaning in simple things. For photographers, this style can change how you see and take pictures.

Remember, the key to abstract minimalism is its simplicity and the feelings it creates. Keep exploring and trying new things, and enjoy your photography!

  • Photography Advice from my YouTube community.

Photography Advice from my YouTube community.

I made a video about the best advice I got when I was starting out. You can watch it clicking the video below.

I asked in the video what advice have you got or given to others. The amount of great advice was big. It was also so valuable that I decided to list some of the best in this blog post. Not many come back and read the comments.

I think this advice is spot on. You do not need the latest gear to make great photography. If you concentrate more on your photography skills, you will be a far better photographer than you would be if you think about the gear all the time.

Thinking about the image your making is important. Just firing a way will give you a lot of images, but in most cases that would result in good photographs. It does not mean that when things happens you should not make a lot of images if there is a thinking process behind the images.

Practise is the key. Learn you gear to be better. The better you know your gear the less you have to think about it. If you do not have to think about the how on your camera you can concentrate on tghe photography itself.

Enjoying the process is good for you. For many photography is a hobby. Part of the fun is just to go out and enjoy the act of photography. It does not always have to be about the image itself. A great photograph is a bonus.

This comment from @hafzke had many good advice. Worth reading and giving so thought.

This is very important. Shoot for the moment. Being present and in a flow will help a lot when making photographs.

There was a lot of good advice. I picked these. I think these added a lot to my video. Go and read from the comment section of my video. Thank you all who have commented and added much value to the video.

  • Photography related Holiday Sales

    Photography related Holiday Sales

I have collected some of the best Holiday Deals I found from different manufacturers. Some of the links are affiliate links. I have a disclaimer at the end of this page.
I have mostly included only the gear and software I have personally used or tested.

    Sirui

Sirui is a well-known gear manufacturer. I have a few of their products. I have a Traveller X tripod, Sirui A100B light, and T30 RGB tube lights.

Sirui has some interesting gear to offer on their Holiday Deal.
They have a few of their Anamorphic lenses, Cine lenses, and the already mentioned lights.
Sirui has just launched a new lens set called, Sniper. It is a set of lenses with focal lengths of 23mm, 33mm, and 56mm. It is available for Sony E, Fuji X, and Nikon Z-mounts.

    Laowa

Venuslens, the maker of Laowa lenses, is having a promotional sale during the holiday season. If you buy one lens, you get 5% off with the code LAOWAXMAS5; if you buy two, then use the code LAOWAXMAS10 to get 10% off. There are some expectations, so you should check their website for precise information.

    B&H Photo

B&H also has a holiday sale. They have all kinds of deals on gear. Some of them are quite good. Some of the camera has several hundred dollars in price reduction. One example is the Canon R6 Mark II. Its original price is $2499 and right now it is only $1999.

    Luminar Neo

Luminar Neo is an image editing software that uses AI. They just updated Neo with GenExpand. They offer a one-year subscription for €49 and a two-year subscription for 79€. The lifetime license is 99€. These are not bad deals for what Luminar Neo is.
I have a few videos about Lunianr Neo. This one is about the GenExpand tool, and this one is about the GenSwap and GenErase tools.

    TopazLabs

Topaz Photo AI and Topaz Video AI are excellent software. Photo AI is great for noise reduction and upscaling. Video AI is for enhancing video footage. I use Photo AI almost every day and Video AI when I need to upscale older footage to match the newer resolution like 4K.

Topaz now has 25% off of both of this software. They are also taking pre-orders for Gigapixel. It will be launched sometime in January, I think.

    Excire

Excire Foto 2024 is still only €149. The regular price is €189. It is a great AI-driven image database. It uses AI to keyword images. It has several search methods. If you want to learn more about it, check out my video.

    DxO

DxO is running an interesting draw. If you buy their software you have a chance to win a 5000€ camera of your choice. There are three second prizes. That is a 3000€ camera. If you need their software now is a good time to get it!

Here are my latest videos about DxO software.

    Disclaimer

The companies run all these holiday deals, and I have nothing to do with them. I only wanted to share some of the ones that I find to be the most valuable for my readers. Check out the deals if you need something. The deals expire at different times, so if you are here after the holiday season, they might not be available.
