Is H&Y Swift RevoRing the BEST Magnetic Filter system?

H&Y has had its RevoRing on the market for sometime now. It is a very handy adapter to add filters with out having to use step-up or step down rings.

Swift RevoRing

I have used their Black Mist Filter with RevoRing adapter. It has been very handy to use it with all my lenses. I only need one and it is usable with all my lenses. If you are interested in it check out this video.

Swift RevoRing is a whole new filter system. H&Y has a Kickstarter campaign. (link is an Affiliate link)

The system consists of three different parts. The Base is the RevoRing. It can be with built-in filters or just RevoRing. In the next part, the bridge is attached with magnets. There are ring/drop-in filter rack/VND, and a square filter holder. The last part is top accessories which include a matte box, lens hood, and square filters.

Kickstarter Campaign

Their Kickstarter campaign did reach its goal in 24h so it is actually happening. What is good about Kickstarter is that you will be the first to get the product from the campaign. The price is also a bit less during the campaign. Prices will get higher after the campaign is over. There are always risks with a Kickstarter campaign, but on this one risks are minimum. The goal has been reached and H&Y has a history of successful campaigns from the past. I would trust this.

My thoughts on the Swift RevoRing after using it.

I had a chance to test the system. H&Y send me a set of filters and RevoRing etc. to test. I have made a video about the stuff I got.

Especially I was interested in the H&Y VND + CPL, a variable ND-filter + a polarizing filter. The reason I was so interested in it is the magnetic front. I can attach a lens hood that was also included in the package I got.

The only problem I had with the filter was when used at full strength. It is unfortunately unusable. There is a heavy cross shadow and color sifts. The maximum strength is 5 on the scale of the filter. t is not a major setback or deal breaker but something to be aware of.

Otherwise, it is totally fine. No big color sifts at other strengths. The image has a slightly warmer tone, but that is sometimes wanted. The slight warmer can be adjusted to cooler tones easily.

Are filters still something we need?

Filters are not as commonly used as there were in film days. There are still a few very useful filters today. The most used for me is the ND filter. I have several of them. Another one is a Black Mist filter that is used in the video. It cuts some of the digital video looks. It is also quite nice when used in nighttime photography. It produces quite a nice glow in high lights. Polarizers are good for reducing reflections and shine from most shiny objects.

My video about the new system

Below is my video about the system i got from H&Y. If you want some more info be sure to watch it.
